It was down to Chris Rene, Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik during last night’s finale of The X-Factor, a project Simon Cowell‘s been nurturing since before he left American Idol. Amaro emerged the victor, snagging the $5 million recording contract awarded to the singer with that X factor.
Amaro, who had been mentored by Cowell, sang “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly and “Listen” by Beyonce before Cowell declared that she deserved to win, according to People. “America, thank you for giving this girl an opportunity,” Cowell said. “She is a star.”
“I feel amazing. Melanie deserves it. She has a wonderful voice,” runner-up Krajcik said of his competitor. “I’ve had such an incredible experience here … I couldn’t be happier.”
