Mel Gibson is atoning for his sins. In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, the actor was very candid about his behavior (caught on tape by ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva). Gibson admitted that what he did was wrong and regrets what he said, but Gibson doesn’t believe he’s entirely to blame. The actor asked, “‘Who anticipates being recorded? Who anticipates that? Who could anticipate such a personal betrayal?” Fair enough.
Gibson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery charges against Grigorieva, but his lawyers are trying to prove that she leaked the tapes to extort millions out of her ex-boyfriend (Grigorieva denies this). “You have to put it all in the proper context of being in an irrationally, heated discussion at the height of a breakdown, trying to get out of a really unhealthy relationship,” Gibson told Deadline. He put an end to the battle because it became a merry-go-round and he didn’t want to put his children through such hell.
“It’s one terribly, awful moment in time, said to one person, in the span of one day and doesn’t represent what I truly believe or how I’ve treated people my entire life.”
