Media Outlets Fight Over John Mayer Mug Shot

Jokingly, singer John Mayer offered TMZ to donate a thousands of dollars to charity if they could unearth his 2001 mugshot. Mayer posted on Twitter, “Challenge: if Harvey Levin at TMZ can produce my mug shot, I will donate 25k to the charity of his choice.”

This offer was prompted in response to Fall Out Boy singer, Patrick Stump, getting arrested earlier in the week for driving without a driver’s license.

Well, this has caused some drama between TMZ and The Smoking Gun.com, who claims that they posted the mugshot on their website first. TSG alleges that TMZ backdated their post to 3:03 p.m. in order to appear to have had the mugshot first.

As proof that TMZ originally went live at 3:10 p.m., TSG notes that the first comments are timestamped at 3:10 p.m. Meanwhile, John could care less, I’m sure. He’s like, “You ladies just keep on fighting over me and when you’re done, the winner can come give me a call.”
