The movie’s stars Matt Bomer, Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons and Taylor Kitsch posed for some truly lovely photos in this months issue. And they had quite a lot to say about working on such an important film.
In case you haven’t heard the plot, The Normal Heart is about a gay activist, played by Ruffalo, trying to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS during the early 1980s.
The movie is based on the play of the same name by Larry Kramer, and faced some serious hardship making it from stage to screen. Barbra Streisand originally tried to get a movie version made from 1986 to 1996, although all her moves proved to be unsuccessful. It wasn’t until Glee creator Ryan Murphycame along in 2009 that things really got rolling.
Matt, who plays the main character’s lover suffering from the virus, revealed to the magazine how he prepared for the role. Matt left his family for a few weeks that he described as “really monastic and solitary — to create the physical reality of what Felix was going through.” Look at him, being method all the way.
Check out The Hollywood Reporter for more on the movie–the article is a fantastic read. But first launch the gallery to check out the photos from THR cover shoot. Once again, Matt’s eyes are a thing of beauty.
