Martinis and Popcorn: ‘Red,’ ‘Jackass 3-D,’ ‘Conviction’ and ‘Hereafter’

The Social Network debuted two weeks ago and has been sitting pretty at number one ever since, strengthening the argument that Justin Timberlake has a shot at a reputable acting career.

This week, with the release of Red and Jackass 3-D, The Social Network may finally have some competition at the box office.

Starring four Hollywood heavy weights (Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Bruce Willis) in a DC comic book inspired film, Red is a humorous action flick about four former CIA operatives that now jump back into the line of fire.

Why? It’s a bit blurry. But seeing Mirren master a sniper makes it all worth it.

Jackass 2 opened to $29 million in 2006, so those crazy folks partnered with Paramount Pictures are hoping that the third installment will make bank. Plus, it’s in 3-D — ka-ching!

Not to mention, they have those Jersey Shore organgies promoting the film so the whole MTV crowd will be in attendance this weekend.

Quickly mentioned, but duly noted, are Hereafter starring Matt Damon and Conviction starring Hilary Swank, which will both have limited releases in theaters. Both one-worded titles deserve a second look as Swank is creating Oscar buzz (yet again).
