Martinis and Popcorn: ‘Eclipse’ and ‘The Last Airbender’

Hey, by the way, Eclipse debuted on Wednesday. Did you know that? Yea, something tells me that the $30 million in ticket sales for the midnight showing alone is a sure sign that Twi-hards marked their calendars to watch the third installment of The Twilight Saga.

The cast has been all around the world – although the UK was “Robbed” of the primary three – to promote the film and critics are even giving the film a nod of approval, mostly because of new director, David Slade.

My personal favorite is Jackson Rathbone, who I believe doesn’t get enough credit for the off-beat Jasper, although he seems cool with being low key.

However, I’m hoping that he gets some major swoons for The Last Airbender, which also debuts this weekend, because there’s no love in the reviews.

“In a martial-arts world divided into four elemental kingdoms–fire,
water, air and earth–a kid with the ability to manipulate all the
elements has the power to bring peace. Unfortunately, he was frozen in
ice before he could learn to control anything other than air, and you’ll
be frozen catatonic by the most boring summer-action epic in ages,” E! Online summed up after giving the film a D+.

Have no fear fellow Team Jaspers, Jackson is not the source of criticism, but more so, director M. Night Shyamalan, who in his big budget production proved that he peaked at The Sixth Sense and has forever continued on a downward spiral. As well, Dev Patel has had a few jabs at his permanent scowl throughout the entire movie.

As if there were any questions about what to see this weekend, I recommend Eclipse. And if there are fellow Team Jasper out there, let me know if he gets more face time. I lust for that accent.
