Martinis and Popcorn: Kids, Mocking and Dark Humor

So the headliner for this weekend is Toy Story 3, which reunites Tom Hanks and Tim Allen from the Pixar 1995-ground breaker. This is sure to give Shrek Forever After some competition in the box office.

They’ve really got a gimick. The toys have to deal with Andy leaving for college! Apparently, the audience will have to remove their 3D glasses to wipe away tears for this nostalgic installment.

If you’re sick and sadistic like me and want to laugh at how pathetic movies can be, see Jonah Hex. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of the talented Josh Brolin and John Malkovich, but Megan Fox attempts a sexy southern accent with duck lips.

It’s so hard to take her or her career serious these days.

Jonah Hex is violent comic meets Wild Wild West (and even that movie is better than this mess). This film doesn’t even compare to the anticipated comic book films yet to come. Hell yea Green Lantern and Captain America!

Lastly, the ringer (definition 2) for the week – the film you should really check out. The dark comedy Cyrus stars John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill and Marisa Tomei. Need I say more?

Ok fine. John has a sad life story till he meets Molly (Tomei). An undeniable chemistry is halted by Molly’s creepy son, Cyrus.

“Above all, it deftly captures the ambiguity and absurdity of human
relationships. With improvised dialogue and performances that go from
uncomfortable to honest, Cyrus is an off-kilter charmer,” said USA Today.

GO. Come back, comment and let’s compare notes!
