Martinis and Popcorn: ‘Hall Pass’ and ‘Drive Angry’
Do the names Peter and Bobby Farrelly sound familiar? They might sound vaguely familiar, but their box offices successes are probably more well known (Me, Myself and Irene and There’s Something About Mary). It’s been a few disappointments since then and this weekend the brothers hope to land in the number one spot with Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis.
Rick (Wilson) gets the gift some married men dream of: for one week he gets a “pass” to act single and have an affair. How Do You Know that this film will be better than Wilson’s last? The film follows the Farrelly brothers’ well received formula of raunchy comedy with a heart. Unless there’s a ringer, by the end, we will all remember what a sweet, new dad Wilson is.
Helping align Hall Pass for number success is the other weekend release, Drive Angry. Starring Nicholas Cage and all his eccentricities, Drive Angry appears to be more reminiscent of his Gone in 60 Seconds Days, which I will happily accept after the sci-fi Season of the Witch. Joining in on the mission to avenge his daughter’s death is Amber Heard who brings some leg and life with self performed stunts.
However, any movie buff knows that this movie weekend will really be dedicated to the Academy Awards, which airs live Sunday, Feb. 27. Hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway, make SOCIALITE LIFE your live blog, red carpet, fashion follow!
