Mariah Carey arrived at last night’s Independent Spirit Awards clad in Valentino. The short black number is a departure from Carey’s typical wardrobe selection (painted on, boobies pushed up). The boobies are only slightly elevated and the hemline isn’t THAT short (I’m grabbing for straws. This particular ensemble is at the demure end of her taste spectrum). All in all, it was a toned-down appearance and I’ve received no word of tom foolery on Carey’s part (yet).
Carey was at the awards in support of her film Precious: Based On The Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire. Precious swept the ceremony last night, winning Best Feature, Best Director (Lee Daniels), Best First Screenplay (Geoffrey Fletcher), Best Female Lead (Gabourey Sidibe), and Best Supporting Female (Mo’Nique).
The 25th Annual Independent Spirit Awards, honoring the best in independent and original filmmaking, was held at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, March 5, 2010. The event is normally held on a Saturday afternoon before the Oscars (in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica, no less), but the show moved to Friday night this year at LA LIve in honor of the 25th anniversary.
British comedian Eddie Izzard hosted the ceremony, which was broadcast on the IFC channel last night (a rebroadcast airs today at 11:15 am EST).
