Madonna’s Adoption Proceedings Delayed Until Friday

Madonna flew into Malawi this weekend in hopes of swiftly swooping away her brand, spanking new 3-year-old, Mercy James, but was greeted with some resistance.

UsWeekly reported that Madonna will have to wait until Friday before she finds out whether or not her adoption request has been granted. While Mercy James’ mother is dead, her father is rumored to still be roaming about and grandmother, Lucy Chekechiwa, calls Madge’s “adopting” “stealing” and plans to battle her in court.

“Why doesn’t this singer pick other children? It is stealing. I want to go to to court. I won’t let her go,” Chekechiwa says.

Regardless, Madonna adoption ambitions have been questioned by many. Malawi’s Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Development say she’s too sexually open and all this broken home, bed-hopping is not kosher for a child to be around.

Children’s advocacy groups say her fame has allowed her to escape the prerequisite 12-24 month assessment period, while the Children UK organization is even questioning whether or not Mercy is even a genuine orphan.
