London Terrorist Attack

July 8th, 2005 // 15 Comments

My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the London bombings yesterday. What happened is unfathomable – we live in such a fucked up world. I got the chills when first heard about the attacks, my thought immediately returned to 9/11. Be strong. My love to those in London and the UK.

Of course it’s an American, who is the first to exploit the terrorist attack. R&B singer Omarion released a press release wanting people to pray for him.

LOS ANGELES, July 7 /PRNewswire/ — T.U.G./Sony Recording Artist Omarion was in London during the tragic bombings that struck this morning. He would like his fans to pray that he has a safe trip and a safe return home. He appreciates your support.

He makes no mention of the injured or the dead, just the fact that he wants fans to pray for him? WTF? This just blows me away. Feeling a little self important? Why not log onto Omarion’s message board and tell him what you think of his press release.

For information regarding the tradegy visit Londonist and Boing Boing.

(I was unable to blog live yesterday, so this is why I’m just addressing this horrible tragedy now.)

  1. i am a londoner… it was a really black day, thank you for being supportive. everyone i know is ok, thank goodness.

  2. If there’s justice, his plane will crash and his house will burn for being such a selfish idiot.

  3. It’s a shame that he had to be so selfish. This has been a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to all Londoners. I also immediately thought of 9/11 when I was watching the news yesterday morning. Off topic but I was also a little concerned when you didn’t post anything about this yesterday but now I know why. Anyhow, I hope that the healing process for the British will be swift. You’re in my thoughts.

I am a Londoner and thank everyone for their support. My question is: who the hell is he? I have no idea. Does he think he is that important?

I know this sounds terrible, but where was our heartfelt sympathies for the Spanish (who lost three times as many people) or better yet, the Indians who suffered a terrorist attack on a sacred temple last week, or even more frequent, the Israelis who live with these kind of attacks on a weekly basis? Do terrorists have to attack the U.S. or England for it to be “real”? Until we as a civilized human race look at these attacks equally (including 9/11) and cooperate to defeat these religious zealots and malicious wackos, we (whether that “we” is a Russian school child, Israeli college student, United States banker or London commuter… you get the drift) will live with this kind of tragedy indefinitely.

The world got its shit together to defeat Hitler, and this is no different to me in terms of a world-wide threat to all that is good and decent and civilized in the world (even if the scope is currently smaller). When will it end?

Who the hell is this Omarion idiot? I’ve never heard of him! He is probably somehow related to Paris Hilton, his self-absorbed sister. People are dead and injured and he is worrying about himself?!? I think we need to all get together and ignore these self-absorbed egoists we call celebrities, and then maybe they will all go away.
As for terrorism, I cannot fathom the planning and carrying out of such evil deeds. AER is right. We need to all pull together and somehow defeat this crap.

  7. anaisnun

Yes, it’s a terrible tragedy. A worse tragedy is that only so-called “civilized” countries get this sort of media coverage and sympathy. It’s too bad innocent people had to die because Tony Blair has his nose up George Bush’s asshole.

Why are you promoting hatred towards America? When a tradgedy occurs, do you think that means it’s bash America time? That comment was uncalled for and it was not nice. We are all terrorized by these people.
Also, most people know this but celebrities don’t prepare their own press releases. They have someone write it for them. Omarion hired an idiot.

  9. Laura Holla

Can someone please tell me who the HELL Omarion is and WHY the HELL he makes press releases? The problem is not these morons with idiotic comments, but rather us- who gives them attention and pulicity.
The attacks in London were devastating to hear about, even moreso for me, being a New Yorker and having witnessed 911.
Something needs to be done to put an end to all this hatred and these cowardly crimes. These animals should be hunted down and beheaded. .. And we were so worried about our soldiers mistreating the prisoners in Abu Ghraib. PLEASE. Eye for an eye. Get these bastards and eliminate them W.

  10. Laura Holla

BLAIR AND BUSH ARE WUSSES. IF THEY HAD ANY BALLS THEY WOULD NUKE ALL THE CAMEL JOCKEYS. THIS TERRORISM WILL NEVER STOP ANYWAY. WE WONT EVER BE COMPLETELY SAFE. SCARE THESE BASTARDS AND STOP BEING SO POLITICALLY AND MORALLY CORRECT. THEY ARENT. ONLY WHEN ONE OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS GETS BEHEADED WILL YOU LIBERALS UNDERSTAND THAT WE DID NOT LOOK FOR THIS WAR BUT WE WILL FINISH IT & PREVAIL. HOLLA.

  11. AER

anaisnun you are a moron. Your line of thinking is akin to saying, “It’s too bad innocent people had to die on 9/11 because the U.S. is after oil”. I mean, wtf? So, it’s somehow justifiable or even simply a pitty? What an insensitive, predictable and uninformed uber-liberal thing to say.

Yes, the U.S. does need to reevaluate its policies in ways (and by the way, Clinton glossed over and failed to change U.S. policies for 8 years prior to Bush being elected, it’s why 9/11 happened – if you are going to blame someone for promoting ill-fated, unfair policies worthy of suicide bombers and other terrorist acts, Clinton is where you would start), but that IN NO WAY justifies or rationalizes terrorist acts. The real problem is you have a seriously f-ed culture of jihadist imbiciles who somehow think it’s okay to blow people up on their way to work because of those peoples’ leaders’ decisions. Hmmm… Let’s see… Based on that logic, that would make it okay for us to have nuked Iraq or planted bombs in their hospitals or who knows what else… Uhm, noooo…. People need to seriously pull their heads out of their asses.

  12. mary

i am very sorry for the bombings

  13. anaisnun

Yes, I may very well be a moron, but I’m expressing my opinion, as are all of you. Thanks for speaking up, even if you don’t agree. The first ammendment rocks, doesn’t it. Btw, dissent is patriotic–peace & thx for speaking up.

  14. Londongirl

Can you people please stop arguing about politics for ONCE?! Why does EVERYTHING have to go back to Iraq?! Iraq has NOTHING to do with this! In fact, Iraqi civillians are the ones experiencing terror from insurgents every single day so get off your high horses and stop blaming others for a change. If you want to get political why wasn’t the security here good enough? Especially with what’s going on with the G8 summit. And stop it with the racism (‘camel jockeys’). Now is CERTAINLY not the time.

I’d like to thank everyone here to had the decency to express their sincere sympathies about what had happened without offending us in the process. It’s really appreciated. Londoners are now working together, whether black or white, jew or arab, christian or hindu, rich or poor, to carry on with our lives as normally as we can to not let those terrorists win. We have to be strong. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by what happened on thursday.

Some people are just terrible excuses for human beings that think of nothing but themselves. In similar news, I read at democracynow.org that some FOX news people are saying that the bombing was a good thing, that the Westerners can profit from this and that the G8 summit should put the emphasis on combating terrorism rather than poverty.
