It has been two years since the sudden death of Natasha Richardson, but to her husband, Liam Neeson, the loss still feels fresh. Liam recently took some time out of his busy film schedule and spoke with Esquire magazine about Natasha’s death. Liam opens up about the tragedy that still haunts him and goes into detail about his trip to the hospital the night after the accident.
Liam, pictured in the gallery at the Royal Film Performance and World Premiere of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on November 30, 2010 in London, England, credits his busy schedule for his survival “I think I survived by running away some,” Liam told the magazine.
As for the visit to the hospital, Liam is candid about his frustration over not being recognized by the hosiptal staff and the subsequent struggle to see his wife. When he finally got help from some nurses, he got to his wife’s room and “all these young doctors, who look all of eighteen years of age, they tell me the worst. The worst.”
Liam explains that the pain and grief will come about suddenly, “I’m feeling quite content. And it’s like suddenly, boom.” Even though grief is something you can’t really prepare for, Liam is doing his best to handle the grief. When the accident occurred, Liam was filming for the movie Chloe and since then he has pretty much jumped from one film set to another.
I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it must be for him at the end of the day. If staying busy keeps him from pain, I say keep on keeping. What do you think, is he running away from the grief or handling it like a pro?
