One NPR writer compared tracking down Lauryn Hill and pinning her down to do an interview to talking to God in one gushing article about what should have been a simple story: so how is Crazy McCrazy doing?
Basically, she’s doing fine but hasn’t really changed much. BORING.
Lauryn did open up about why she initially dropped out of the spotlight following the success of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill…but in her own “special” way.
“There were a number of different reasons,” she said. ”But partly, the
support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were
things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through
in order to feel like it was worth it.” Was having five children in 10 years one of these things?
“Oftentimes, I think people are
forced to make decisions prematurely,” she said, pictured in NYC on April 19. “And then that sound radiates.” Que? So basically the interview kind of sounds a lot like that. Still afraid of success and saying anything that resembles, like you know, a REAL quote.
She did hint though that her next project will include her singing a lot more with less rhymes. Considering what has happened to rap since she’s been gone, I think that’s wise.
