Oh things started off so well. The actress looked lovely in a gold dress at the Cannes Film Festival photocall for her new film Melancholia. Kirsten Dunst stars as Justine in the film, a bride who is gripped by depression on what should be the happiest day of her life.

Dunst looked increasingly uncomfortable as Van Trier went on. Von Trier tried to back off his statements when the crowd grew obviously uncomfortable.
“I’m not against the Jews. I am of course very much for the Jews. How can I get out of this sentence, ok I’m a Nazi,” the director said. As the press conference broke up, Dunst, who was no longer smiling, could be heard saying: “Oh Lars, that was intense.”
