Americans will never be able to master the British accent. Ellen DeGeneres proved just why on today’s show by attempting to converse properly with Anna Karenina star Keira Knightley. The two ladies donned English wigs of yore for an impromptu bridal tea, and DeGeneres did her best to keep up with Knightley, famous for her roles in period dramas such as Pride & Prejudice, Atonement and The Duchess.
“I think you’re going into a South African accent,” Knightley warned the talk show host, who tried her hardest to sound like Queen Elizabeth. The two ladies donned period wigs (with flair) for an impromptu bridal tea.
“I don’t get what the big deal is. You say, ‘I do’ I do. You drink a bit,” Knightley told DeGeneres of her lax plans to marry musician James Righton.
“Anyway on the Internet there are things like Bridal Tea Parties. I mean, what is a bridal tea party? I’ve never had a tea party in my life.
So the idea that you should suddenly have tea party because you’re getting married suddenly just really confused me. So the whole thing is kind of quite confusing I think.”
Last night, Knightley joined Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander and director Joe Wright at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood for the film’s premiere.
