Irina Lazareanu may not be a well-known name, but that shouldn’t be the case for long. She has a familiar face, one you may have noticed in the occasional ad for Hugo Boss. Kate Moss handpicked her to rep her hugely-anticipated line for Topshop.
The connection between the two is Pete Doherty and his band, Babyshambles, in which Irinia was the drummer. Long story short, Kate and Irinia became BFF’s–I’m not saying that I suspect there were drugs involved during this bonding process, except that I totally do, but we’re here to talk about fashion, and I digress…
While guest-editing French Vogue, Moss paved the way for her friend’s modeling career by using her in a few ads here and there. The stint helped turn Lazareanu into star of several heavy-hitting fashion campaigns. Chanel and Mulberry have tapped her rocker-chic style, hoping it will add edgy appeal to their ads. Lazareanu has also opened many fashion shows during the various continental fashion weeks, and also scored herself a considerable coup with a cover on “The Daily.”
With the countdown until the launch of Moss’ line May 1st, anticipation is running high for the supermodel’s newest fashion endeavor. The flagship Topshop store is ready for the onslaught of consumer demand, in spite of the expected bedlam to ensue once it opens its doors. Even New York Barneys is buying into “KM Topshop,” certainly a fine feather in Moss’ cap. The line will be sold at Barneys NY exclusively in the US.
