Queen Elizabeth invited 21 crowned heads from around the world to a Diamond Jubilee luncheon at Windsor Castle today (May 18th), including Prince Albert and Princess Charle of Monaco, King Mswatsi of Swaziland, and the King of Bahrain. This guest, in particular, is not sitting well with many as his Gulf state is embroiled in a crackdown of pro-democracy protestors and violence.
According to the Boston Globe, there are many grumblings from Parliament, calling the invite a “catastrophic error of judgment” which could “seriously damage Britain’s reputation.”
The Foreign Office responded to these remarks by saying that the United Kingdom’s relationship with Bahrain allows for talk about “a range of issues including those where we have concerns.”
This lunch was thrown ahead of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, celebrating Her Majesty’s 60-year reign. Jubilee events will take place in London June 2nd-June 5th. Senior members of the royal family – including Kate, William, Harry, Charles and Camilla – will join the monarch aboard the Royal Barge during the river pageant.
Anyway, back to crowns and royalty and KATE MIDDLETON’S OUTFIT!
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a pleated blush dress by Emilia Wickstead (she wore a coat by the designer to her St. Patrick’s Day engagement this year) and – after much debate with my Twitter crew – satin Prada pumps and clutch.
She chatted with Charlene, who sported a cropped do, then mingled with other royal guests before heading into St. George’s Hall for a sit-down lunch of poached egg with English asparagus, noisettes of new season Windsor lamb and puddy with Kent-grown strawberries, according to the Daily Mail.
Prince Charles will host a black-tie dinner at Buckingham Palace for many of the foreign guests tonight.
