Under the assumption that her career allows for such things, Lindsay Lohan has decided to drop “Lohan” from her stage name. Dina Lohan confirmed to Popeater’s Rob Shuter that her all-sorts-of-unbalanced daughter thinks it best to just go by “Lindsay.” Much like Prince and Madonna, the artist-who-may be-formerly-known-as Lindsay Lohan believes that she’s famous enough to go by just one name. While we’re on the topic of dropping Lohan, Dina told Shuter that she and younger daughter Ali are hoping to officially go by Sullivan, Dina’s maiden name.
Everyone in Lindsay’s camp thinks it’s a great idea. She’s been thinking about dropping the tainted surname for some time, but was afraid people wouldn’t recognize her without “Lohan.” It wasn’t until last Superbowl’s E-Trade commercial that the family realized it would be a great idea (this was after Dina figured her lawsuit against E-Trade for allegedly referring to Lindsay was a piss-poor idea), that they decided to forge ahead with just “Lindsay.”
A family friend told Shuter, “So many of the greatest people in showbiz are known by just their first name. Look at Oprah and Beyonce. Now you can add Lindsay to that list.”
Yes, well, here’s the thing: Beyonce and Oprah didn’t drop their last names. They are still known as Beyonce Knowles and Oprah Winfrey. These two women just happen to be so famous that they need not use surnames. At this (bumpy) point in her career, Linsday has no right to just go by Lohan. While we get why the family wants to cut ties with anything Michael Lohan-related, we suggest that Lindsay keep a last name. She’s not cool or weird enough to go by just “Lindsay.” I do, however, adore the fur vest Lohan sported in NYC last week while waiting for a cab.
HOWEVER, if the family is going to follow through on this, it would be grand to have the name drop coincide with the season premiere of Celebrity Rehab.
