Two of our favorite Straight But Not Narrow spokespeople, Avan Jogia and Josh Hutcherson, dropped by the NYLON Magazine 13th anniversary celebration at Smashbox West Hollywood last night (April 10) in West Hollywood, California.
Josh was asked who should take over directing duties for The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, Hutcherson answered diplomatically: “I think Gary’s [Ross] the man. Gary is in my mind is the only one that could ever direct the second one. That’s what I’m sticking to.”
Unfortunately, Ross will not be directing the sequel. He released the following statement…
“Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct ‘Catching Fire, As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.
Contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic,” and that the studio has been “understanding through this difficult decision.”
Are you disappointed he won’t be returning at director for the next film? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
