Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton presented a preview of Dark Shadows in Vegas yesterday at CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners.

“I wasn’t doing my homework. I was watching this weird TV show,” Burton told the audience of the original 1960s television series, who added that Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer were the only stars in the cast who watched the program, which aired from 1966-1971, according to the Boston Globe.

The film starts off in Liverpool, England circa 1760, with Barnabas Collins and his family preparing to move to America (or the New World, as it was called at that time).  An immortal witch (Eva Green) condemns Collins, and construction workers find him buried two hundred years later.  It is then up to Collins to protect his descendants from the witch, who threatens to kill them if Collins does not fall in love with her.

Jennifer Garner, James Franco, Mila Kunis, and Christopher Nolan also made appearances at the convention.
