Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few hours and missed Jodie Foster‘s speech last night, let’s fill you in and discuss it, shall we? Ms. Foster gave quite the speech at the 2013 Golden Globes as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille award. She discussed privacy, made everyone in the room cry and even thanked Mel Gibson.
But friends, none of those reasons are why Jodie’s speech left such an impression. Instead, everyone focused on the fact that for the first time in her 43 years in the spotlight, the 50-year-old actress acknowledged the fact that she’s a lesbian. Yup. Jodie Foster totally came out at the Golden Globes. Check out a video of the moment after the jump!
Jodie built up to the non-announcement announcement with this gem. “So while I’m here being all confessional, I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I’ve never really been able to air in public. So, a declaration that I’m a little nervous about but maybe not quite as nervous as my publicist right now, huh Jennifer?…I am single. Yes I am, I am single.” But it didn’t stop there!
After the audio cut out for several seconds, Jodie’s voice returned with, “…be a big coming-out speech tonight because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age, in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met.”
Jodie topped it all off by thanking her former partner. “There is no way I could ever stand here without acknowledging one of the deepest loves of my life, my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life, my confessor, ski buddy, consigliere, most beloved BFF of 20 years, Cydney Bernard. Thank you, Cyd. I am so proud of our modern family.”
It was really an incredibly awesome speech. Don’t forget to check out the video of her speech below! So what do you guys think of the announcement? Let us know in the comments!
