Jersey Shore Premiere Is Highest Rated MTV Show Of All Time
That’s right people! It’s time for GTL, Jacuzzis, artfully avoiding grenades, and a lot of tall, tan, steroid-loving, gorilla, juice-heads. What more could you ask for? The premiere of Jersey Shore season three—which actually takes place at the Jersey Shore this time—took in 8.45 million viewers on Friday, making it the highest rated MTV show of all time!
No wonder MTV moved their New Year’s celebration to Seaside Heights, where Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi was dropped inside a NYE ball…anything Jersey Shore really brings in the viewers (and thus the advertisers and the MONEY!) And MTV isn’t the only one making money. Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino made over $5 million in 2010 thanks to endorsement deals and penning a book, which actually ended up bombing. Hopefully Snooki’s new book entitled A Shore Thing will be a little more lucrative. But there is no doubt that the cast, pictured on Good Morning America this Thursday, captures the public’s attention.
Although many Americans seem to love Jersey Shore, which spawned a deal for a spin-off series starring Pauly D, not all Americans approve. Case in point: James Gandolfini, star of a fellow Jersey series, The Sopranos. When asked if he watched the show, Gandolfini promptly said no, with a look of disgust on his face. Some may be too high-brow for the trashy series, but for the rest of us, it can remain an entertaining guilty pleasure.
