Jennifer Love Hewitt May Replace Mariska Hargitay on ‘SVU’

Rumor has it, Jennifer Love Hewitt may be asked to step in as the new female lead on Law and Order: SVU. For the upcoming 13th season, Mariska Hargitay has closed a deal in which she will be appearing less, but receiving the same salary of about $400,000. This is understandable considering Hargitay is a new mom and must be yearning to spend time with her baby.

Mariska will continue to appear regularly as detective Olivia Benson for the first 13 episodes, at which point she will be promoted to a supervisor position and a new female lead will take her place. Hewitt is being eyed for the position but has received no formal offer. The actress, who is pictured at the TCM Classic Film Festival Opening Night back in April, recently appeared on SVU as a victim and proved that she has some serious acting chops.

On the other hand, Christopher Meloni—who is currently playing Olivia Benson’s partner, Detective Elliot Stable—is rumored to be asking for a raise, but will stay on for the next season. Who would you like to see as the new female lead?
