America typically screws up in the voting process on American Idol, so the judges save is a genuine blessing.

They weren’t kidding. The night featured the most stunning Bottom 3 of the season and ultimately forced the judges to use their one and only save option on Jessica Sanchez, a contestant widely regarded to be this season’s leading title contender.

“This is a ridiculous Bottom 3,” judge Randy Jackson declared when host Ryan Seacrest revealed that the trio of lowest vote-getters this week consisted of Joshua Ledet, Elise Testone and Sanchez.

It was the first time in the Bottom 3 for Sanchez, who had barely launched into her last-chance performance of Deborah Cox‘s “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” when the judges stepped in to save her.

“Give me that mic,” blurted Jennifer Lopez, seen here arriving at the American Idol studios. “This is crazy! Yes, we’re using the save. You ain’t going home.”

Jackson then took the mic to basically scold the voters. “This girl is one of the best singers in America. Ever. Are you kidding me?” he said. “Please, everybody, vote for the best. It’s about finding the best.”

Did the judges do the right thing by saving Jessica? Sound off in the comments! Check out the contestants reactions to her near elimination…
