Jay-Z Reveals He Shot His Brother At Age 12

Jay-Z admitted his new memoir Decoded that at age 12 he shot his drug-addicted brother. The now 40-year-old multimillionaire rapper businessman and producer was once struggling to grow up in the Brooklyn projects where he said, “guns were everywhere.”

Jay-Z, pictured signing copies of the book in New York City on Nov. 17, fired at his brother during a fight they were having over a stolen ring, wounding but not killing him.

“I thought my life was over. I thought I’d go to jail forever,” he said of the shooting. “It was terrible. I was a boy, a child. I was terrified.”

The superstar rapper once alluded to the incident he said in some lyrics:

He said he once hinted at the violent confrontation in his music in his song, “You Must Love me,” which go, “Saw the devil in your eyes, high off more than weed, confused, I just closed my young eyes and squeezed.”

The two later reconciled and no charges were filed. The rapper visited his brother when he was hospitalized for addiction, and his brother apologized for his wayward ways, Jay-Z said.
