Jane Fonda So Out Of It That She Thinks Dropping The C-Bomb On National Television Is Just Another Day At The Races

February 17th, 2008 // 23 Comments

Before I begin, let me say I love Jane Fonda in the movies. “9 to 5″ is one of my all-time favorites. I could watch Jane smoke weed with Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton and plot to kill their boss over and over again. But who thinks it’s ok to drop the c-word on Meredith Viera on national television. Damn, Jane! This isn’t Britain! Jane Fonda was on the “Today” show the other day, talking about her role in “The Vagina Monologues”.

Apparently, she drops the word in her performance in Atlanta and decided to use it in the interview. HAH! Old ladies are funny. “I didn’t even think. I’m sorry if I offended anybody … I think it’s pretty silly,” Jane said afterwards. 70 year old broads do not give a shit. They figure, I’m not long for this world anyways, what are they gonna do? Arrest me? It’s like diplomatic immunity. She’s 70, it’s not like she’s worried about her career.

  1. It is silly. The word is in the name of the monologue that she performed as part of the Vagina Monologues. Of course violence against women will continue if we are all freaked out by a word! Is a woman’s c**t really that scary?

The whole (no pun intended) point of “The Vagina Monologues”, I thought, was to be courageous and upfront about the female organ and to remove the shroud of shame and secrecy from it. Cunt is another word for vagina. If we are going to talk about it, let’s talk about it. And if we are going to get squeamish about it then let’s cancel “The Vagina Monologues” and go watch Donna Reed.
(PS: I vote for Donna Reed myself.)

70! She looks amazing! And in an awesome natural way.
I’ll bet that Jocelyn Wildenstein is mildly jealous.

  4. George

Oh come on silly Americans. It’s not like she called a person a cunt. It was a cunt that she called a cunt. Get over it cunts.

  5. eh

    no one cares

I don’t see what the big deal is. That is the name of the part that she read in the Vagina Monologues. I personally (as a woman) don’t have a problem with the word in general either.

  7. Deborah

Damned straight that 70 year old broads don’t give a shit, nor do they have to. Fact is, Jane said it within the context of a discussion about the Vagina Monologues. She didn’t call Meredith a cunt. And even if she had called Meredith a cunt it would have been okay because, well, 70 year old broads don’t give a shit and this is Jane fooking Fonda we’re talking about here!!

  8. She just thinks:
now I’m 71, the chanche is there to give some people in the home for the elderly stiff DICK’S!!
    ……………and why not?

I thought it was spectacular. LOL!!! I think the network is making way more out of it than it really is… I really dont think people care.

If anyone here is still alive, much less looking anywhere NEAR AS GOOD as does Jane in that pic, count yourselves extremely blessed. The story here shouldn’t be about Jane dropping the word, but about the repressed, reactionary FCC having a Victorian list of forbidden words — probably written by Will Hays!

Forget Jane, J., when’re you gonna deal with your girl Tilda Swinton’s swingin’ domesticity with two men ~40+ years apart in age?

  11. Jenna Mitchell

Ahh, Hanoi Jane. Still as out of touch now as she was waaaay back in the day.

I’m convinced that if her brain exploded, it wouldn’t mess up her hair.

  12. The whole point of the V Monologues is to embrace the cunt. She can’t chant ‘cunt’ in the play but feel it inappropriate to mention it on TV. Don’t apologize Jane!

I think she looks great! Who cares what she said – it has been blown way, way out of proportion. The media is trying its best to make this a big deal.

  15. Zekers

She’s not “out of it,” she knew exactly what she was doing…

  16. T-Bone

I don’t think it’s a bad word unless you actually call someone one. That’s the worst.

  17. Nanc'

I have NEVER heard the c-word used in reference to a vagina. It is always used as a hateful, derogatory word toward a woman or women and if
the c-word is “ok” for a nationally televised morning show, then are the words, “p***y”, “n****r” and “f****t” ok too?
In just the last year, two of these words were used on radio shows or were simply “reported” as being used by someone in the television industry and the shit really hit the fan. Why is the c-word ok? It isn’t.

  18. Loob

Nanc’ are you alluding to *phony* or *pansy*? ;)

  19. Zekers

Oh Loob, I thought she meant *patsy*!

    Thanks for the laugh!!!

  20. Christopher

This is so cunting stupid I can’t cunting believe it. Get over it Puritan twats! Jaysus Cunting Christ!

  21. Loob

    hehehee :D

I hate to jump off the bandwagon here, but that is on at an hour when there are children possibly watching. My daughter watches GMA every morning with me while I’m preparing to leave for work, and if the C word was dropped in her earshot I’d be rather upset. there’s already enough crap on television, must we add more?

  23. Not Blacks

The word “c#@nt” really only affects the white races and especially white females. Say that word to a black female and she won’t be pissed at all. It doesn’t phase us because we don’t think it’s a word that does damage. I suppose it’s one of those racial words like the “N” word.
