Jan. 18th Is “Freaky Thursday”

Stephen Colbert, host of “The Colbert Report,” will be trading places with Bill O’Reilly, host of Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor” on January 18th. I have a feeling Colbert will have no problem portraying the pomposity that has made O’Reilly notorious, but I worry for O’Reilly who will be expected to at least attempt to be funny. From Yahoo! News:

“I’m really looking forward to speaking to a man who owes his entire career to me,” O’Reilly said.

On “The Colbert Report,” Colbert portrays a self-involved talk-show host who has tried to bring “truthiness” to the world. His character owes an obvious debt to O’Reilly, who holds court in the “no-spin zone” each evening.

On “The O’Reilly Factor,” O’Reilly portrays a … um, he hosts the top-rated program in cable news.

And then, after the two have both learned the lesson of how to walk in another’s shoes, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ band will perform. I think. And someone gets married.

Say what you will about O’Reilly but I really like what he does for kids. He wrote a great book advising them how not to be losers in this world. He defends them at every chance. He exposes weak judges who let child molesters off with no/too-lite sentences. For all the pompousness that is O’Reilly, the good he does for the world FAR outweighs any negatives.
