Some UCLA students are going to be very happy about this. A group of UCLA students, and the student newspaper, protested a few months back when James Franco was announced as speaker at the College of Letters and Science ceremony.
Possibly secretly caving in to the protest, but publicly claiming job commitment issues, Franco has backed out of giving the speech. “I deeply regret not being able to keep my commitment … ” the actor said in statement. “Unfortunately the date conflicts with me needing to be on location to begin pre-production on my next film. I wish everyone in the 2009 class the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.” [Entertianment Weekly]
