James Franco Says Nude Selfie Was Just Giving People What They Want

James Franco stopped by the Late Show With David Letterman Thursday and discussed the racy selfies he recently posted of himself on Instagram.

“James, why? Honest to god, why?” the host asked about the actor’s now infamous photographs, in which he nearly exposed himself.

“To me it’s just a fun thing, it’s something I don’t put a ton of thought into, but it gets a lot of attention. I have a lot of followers on Instagram,” James revealed.

“Like that Britney Spears shaved head moment, where it’s sort of like, ‘All right, you want me? Here you can have me, but I am going to be really ugly.’ You know what I mean?” Franco said to Letterman about the attitude behind the now-infamous shot.

“First of all, let me just say, there’s not a person in this room who hasn’t had their hand in their own pants,” Dave said in Franco’s defense.

“It’s not like I’m putting that on billboards,” Franco said. “Ostensibly Instagram is for my fans. But now all the bloggers are on there so they’ll just take it and use whatever they want [...] If you don’t want to see it, don’t follow me!”
