Last night (September 20, 2012) actor Jake Gyllenhaal made his American theater stage debut in the Roundabout Theatre Production of If There Is Heaven I Haven’t Found It Yet at the Laura Pels Theatre in New York City.
If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet centers on bullied 15-year-old Anna (played by Annie Funke), whose unexpected friendship with her estranged uncle Terry (played by Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal) sends her parents’ rocky marriage into a tailspin. The cast also features Michelle Gomez and Brian F. O’Byrne.
Check out some of Jake’s reviews.
New York Daily News: “Happily, the Brokeback Mountain Oscar nominee shows off sturdy stage chops in his New York theater debut. He’s touching, funny and completely convincing as Uncle Terry, a scruffy man-boy chronically adrift, profane, bad with boundaries, but with a good heart. In short, Terry is far from perfect but likable.”
The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s a pleasure to see him apply his mellow charisma to a minor-key ensemble role rather than marching into town full of star swagger.”
So, fairly positive reviews.
