Jack Nicholson: Most Oscar-Nominated Male Performer

January 22nd, 2009 // Leave a Comment

With Meryl Streep leading both men and women in lifetime totals for Oscar nominations, Jack Nicholson is the doing it for the boys. He’s racked up an impressive twelve Academy Award nominations, putting him in the lead for the most earned by any male actor.

Easy Rider nabbed Nicholson his first nomination with a Best Supporting Actor nod in 1969 and it wasn’t until 1975 and several nominations later that he won the prize for Best Actor in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

The shade-loving thespian has become an Oscar fixture in his own right, having attended every single Academy Awards ceremony since 1990, regardless of whether or not he was up for a possible win. Another impressive record held by the star of The Departed is that he’s been nominated for an award every decade since the 1960s.
