The Jonas Bros Endure J. Harvey!
Jonas Brothers madness! So Buzznet asked me to spend the day with the Jonas Brothers (click the link for Buzznet’s story, photos and videos) and I sorta/kinda squeed like a seventh grade girl hopped up on Cocoa Puffs. Ok, granted – I’m a little old (and jaded like Ms. Scarlett’s pistol grip) but still – Rolling Stone cover, screaming fangirls, clean-cut teen pop! Count me in! I’m such a prostitute when it comes to fame. Seriously – can you break a ten? Five is fine, baby.
The boys (Kevin, 20, Joe, 19, Nick, 15) were playing a show in New Jersey on Saturday night, but they spent the first part of their day watching the New York Yankees take batting practice. I was there on the field in Yankee Stadium as they met their idol, Derek Jeter (he’s thinner in person and a little chilly.)
More Jonas Bros.tween-rock insanity, after the jump!

Jersey on Saturday night, but they spent the first part of their day
watching the New York Yankees take batting practice. I was there on the
field in Yankee Stadium as they met their idol, Derek Jeter.(Click the link for exclusive video on Buzznet!)The boys also toured the stadium, and we caught our first glimpse of Frankie Jonas, who is known as “the Bonus Jonas” by their rabid fans. The Jonas fan base is almost as enamored of seven-year-old Frankie as they are of their bodyguard, Big Rob.If Big Rob sounds familiar, it’s because he used to work with Ms. Britney Spears. As did Felicia Culotta, who is Britney’s famous former assistant. Ms. Culotta now works for the Jonas team, and she is seriously like crazy nice. I managed to speak to her for a moment, and she told me she still speaks to Britney and that she’s “doing great.” I’ll be the judge of that (and have been) but it’s obvious Brit could have retained some dignity if she stuck with Ms. Culotta. The Jonases employ almost 20 of Britney’s former touring staff, Felicia told me. They must come highly recommended if they reined that girl in for so long. While at the stadium, we also got to talk to the boys about their new album (A Little Bit Longer), who their musical influences are and what bands are currently occupying their iPod. (Click the links to see exclusive video on Buzznet)With batting practice over, Buzznet was whisked to the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey to get an all access backstage look at what goes in, on and behind the scenes of a Jonas Brothers show. The boys employ almost 24 buses and trucks, and they travel with an entourage of 100 people to pull this teen scream soiree off. A particularly cool vehicle they travel with is the Verizon Mobile Recording Studio. Dude, it’s a recording studio on a bus. It’s rad. Madonna worked on her part of “4 Minutes” in there, and it’s also been used by Timbaland, Black Eyed Peas, and Pearl Jam to name just a few. Jesse, one of the engineers who works on the bus, told me that Madonna is “interesting” to work with and advised “standing up to her” as the way to work with her. Because I’m sure that will happen for me, soon. I don’t believe he did, his head would be on backwards. Madge doesn’t play that. While at the venue, we were able to get a few minutes with the boys. They talked about how it felt to have Columbia dump them and then go on to be a multimillion dollar- Columbia Records who?- success, whose shoes Nick was wearing (they were hot), what’s on their tour bus and what their pre-show rituals are (they crack jokes!) and what they would be doing for the MTV Music Video Awards in Sept. They also gave us their opinion on Britney! (Click the link for exclusive video on Buzznet.)We also took the time to check out the fans at a Jonas Brothers show. People, you do not underestimate a Jonas Brothers fanette. Holy god, I and the Buzznet videographer were almost trampled and eaten by raging tween princesses when they saw that we had a camera. Jonas girls always assume that the boys will be watching the footage, and they practically had a “Welcome to Thunderdome” moment with each other trying to get on camera. YIKES! I had Wheelies marks on my forehead as children taunted my old ass! Then it was showtime. The boys’ Camp Rock co-star Demi Lovato opened the show and brought the Disney rock. But she was no match for when the Jonas bros took the stage. My ears are still bleeding and the pr people had provided me with earplugs. Seriously, what did you say? I can’t hear you. People’s glasses were shattering with the combined shrieking. The boys brought feel-good teen rock to the assembled screaming masses, with plenty of ninja kicks, guitar spins, blasts of fire and cute boy Euro-couture. While taking pictures from the front, I could almost feel the Jonas enthusiasm! Don’t get it twisted, though, I’m still a cranky bitch who was looking for the slightest flaw to report on. But there nary a crack pipe, groupie, or pentagram in site. I didn’t even see a can of Bud Lite anywhere. Rock stars? And to be honest, the guys were crazy nice and really polite. For youthful millionaires, they could have been like “beat it, homo.” But they weren’t, and I came away feeling that they were young dudes living their dream. The Disney gendarmes are kindly, but strict, so they politely asked that nothing personal be asked (chastity rings, Selena Gomez, and that bitch Miley Cyrus were off the menu completely). But hey – we found out who made those shoes Nick was wearing! I want some! Thanks to Carolyn Weyforth, Victor Trevino, and the rest of the Jonas Bros crew and entourage for letting me tag along for the day! I swear I didn’t steal anything. Well, that one scooter. What?(P.S. Click here for tons of pics of the boys at Yankees batting practice and here for pics of their Saturday night show in New Jersey!)
