The latest news concerning superstar David Beckham does not have to do with his high-profile marriage to former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham, nor his estimated $30 million of endorsements (Gillette, Vodafone, Pepsi or Adidas, to name a few), rather it concerns the very talent that catapulted the Adonis to fame: his soccer career.
Now don’t go thinking that just because this is a sports story there isn’t plenty of gossip involved. Europeans are going to have Beckham back from LA for a bit in March when the player will be on loan to AC Milan during the Champions League Competition. With them, he will face his former club, Manchester United, and it will be a reunion filled with bad-break-up karma.
Reportedly, Beckham never intended to leave Man U when he was a member, “and has never hidden his admiration for [the team manager] regularly referring to the Scot as the greatest manager of all time.” Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson had little tolerance for Beckham’s extracurricular life, and sold the soccer star off, “after the player married Victoria Beckham in July 1999…’He was never a problem until he got married… Getting married into that entertainment scene was a difficult thing. From that moment, his life was never going to be the same. He is such a big celebrity, football is only a small part.’”
Ferguson is hyping up the match with predictable cockiness, “We’ve come up against AC Milan many times… we’re very much looking forward to it.“ I personally will be rooting for AC Milan since the likelihood of a topless, post-goal-making sight of Beckham rests with them.
