Yesterday afternoon (July 20, 2013), The Vampire Diaries principle cast took the stage in San Diego to have a quick chat with fans at Comic-Con about season 4 and their characters.

Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, Kat Graham, Candice Accola, Julie Plec, and Caroline Dries took the stage and gave us all a very entertaining panel to watch as they made fun of each other and teased as any proper family would.

As far as details for season 5, we did get a few small tidbits to add to our ever growing list of clues.

Paul Wesley gave the quote of the night when he declared that he was glad he didn’t get the girl because he was glad to be evil again, which he then backtracked to tell Nina that of course he loves her. Paul said, “I love being evil, but I love you too.”

Vampire Diaries executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries said the new season will also deal with the ramifications of Nina Dobrev’s Elena choosing romance with Ian Somerhalder’s Damon over Stefan, as well as Katherine, the ancient vampire character played by Dobrev, involuntarily becoming human.

“It is Mystic Falls and essentially you can’t be that happy for that long, so there’s always got to be that drama,” said Somerhalder.

The new season will also see some characters going off to college. “Why are we pursuing higher education?” joked Wesley. “We’re all murderers.”

Ian and Nina had an awkward moment in the press room, when they arrived shortly after one another. Nina then left for a bit, and came back so she was further down the line from Ian.

In the season five sneak peek that was shown during the panel, Wesley looks like he is having a blast as season five’s big bad, Silas! Watch the preview below.
