Jennifer Lopez is reportedly taking the heat from the Human Rights Foundation.
J-Lo is under fire for making millions for her history of performances where she “serenading crooks and dictators from Eastern Europe and Russia.” We can’t forget when the 43-year-old triple threat sang “happy birthday” to the controversial leader of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The country has had a rep for oppressive leadership and J-Lo’s team stated, “Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended.”
Okay, so am I the only one that doesn’t think this is a huge deal? I mean, yeah its kind of terrible to be supporting that kind of dictatorship, but can we all calm down for a second?
After Lopez’s first controversial performance, HRF outlined five other performances she did for other leaders that carry many of the same polarizing views.
HRF president, Thor Halvorssen released a statement dismissing Lopez’s ignorance by stating, “What those covering this story have missed is that J.Lo and her management have misled her fans and the public,” adding, “J.Lo has repeatedly mingled with and entertained some of the world’s worst thugs and their cronies. The ‘Jenny-from-the-block-who-doesn’t-Google’ clarification may be credible in one instance, but it beggars belief in light of a pattern of repeated behavior. This is not about ignorance, it’s about greed.”
So I definitely understand that. But let me reiterate, people need to stay out of other people’s lives. Okay, so it probably isn’t the smartest thing for J-Lo to do career-wise, but the HRF should just let her be.
