Have A Socialite’s Night: Keane Comes To The Bowery Ballroom

New York:

Friday: British rockers Keane hit the Bowery Ballroom tonight for a sold out show that’s likely to prove that they are much, much more than just background music for that “Lake House” trailer and tragic episodes of “The OC”. Those wary of pre-teen fans needn’t worry, though – the show’s just for the 18 and over crowd tonight. [Link]

Saturday: After Keane performs, rocker and supposed Lohan ex Ryan Adams takes the stage for a “sort of secret” performance, under the name Cold Roses, Inc. Word of mouth speaks volumes, though – tickets are already sold out, so check out Craig’s List and see what’s left. The show begins a little after midnight, so be sure to grab some coffee before you go. [Link]

Sunday: The Big Apple Convention returns to New York City for its self-proclaimed Summer Sizzler this weekend with special appearances and signings courtesy of Steven Seagal, the original Jason from “Friday the 13th”, and other people like that. [Link]

The Chicago and New York City To Do’s are after the jump.

Friday: Celebrate National Take Your Dog to Work Day at Carmichael’s Steak House and enjoy free food – for both you and your pet. The ugliest dog there wins a free makeover, too! Didn’t know that there was such a holiday? No worries. Just be sure and keep all cats and allergies safe at home. [Link]

Saturday: Kate Hudson’s rocker husband Chris Robinson and his band, The Black Crowes, will be performing tonight at The Charter One Pavilion. But perhaps more notably, college circuit favorite Robert Randolph and The Family Band will be performing as well. [Link]

Sunday: The Intonation Music Festival finishes up this afternoon in Union Park, but it’s not too late to catch some great acts. Bloc Party, Jon Brion, Chromeo, Lady Sovereign and The Streets are just a few of the many groups scheduled to perform this weekend. [Link]

Los Angeles:

Friday: Red-haired rocker and former New Pornographers’ singer Neko Case is performing at The Henry Fonda Theatre tonight. For whatever reason, tickets aren’t sold out yet, so count yourself lucky and give this talented performer a shot. [Link]

Saturday: Former Vice President and documentary film guru Al Gore will be signing copies of his book, “An Inconvenient Truth” at Dutton’s Beverly Hills this afternoon. Those unable to arrive hours early and get a good spot in line can choose to order an autographed copy online instead. It’s the environmentally friendly thing to do. [Link]

Sunday: The Los Angeles Film Festival is finally underway and there’s an endless list of events “worth seeing” scattered across the city. Among the highlights? Tonight’s discussion lead by director Richard Linklater (“Dazed and Confused”). Be sure and Netflix both “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset” before you go. [Link]

If you don’t live in either of those cities, here are some things for you to do this weekend as well.
