The band had arrived in the city earlier in the day for the first of two concerts on their Take Me Home tour, with the second taking place tonight (February 27).
But they were left shocked when Harry, 19, was caught by a tennis shoe which was lobbed through the crowds, hitting him in the nether regions, with angry security guards looking on.
Just seconds earlier, the band managed to dodge another shoe that had been thrown towards them, as they took part in a Twitter question and answer session on stage.
Harry picked up the item in a light-hearted manner, telling the massive audience: “It’s a shoe.”
Poor Harry then fell victim to the second missile, landing slap bang in the middle of his groin. As he fell to the ground clutching his crotch, it’s not entirely clear if Harry was genuinely in pain or playing up to the prank but, either way, he took the incident in his stride, getting up and stretching his legs as bandmates Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik looked on, concerned.
Laughing things off, Harry commented: “I’ve lost the power to talk. I’m scared of shoes.”
