Geri Halliwell dug deep into her closet full of tranny Ginger Spice costumes to draw inspiration for a collaboration with British retailer Next. The result-a collection reminiscent of her Union Jack “dress” at the 1997 Brit Awards. The hemline is a wee bit longer and the clunky red booties are sold separately, but the sentiment is the same: Spice Girls Forever!
At the line’s launch, held at Mercer Studios in London today (February 2nd), Halliwell was asked about upcoming projects. “My pop career is about to come back. It’s my first love,” she said, according to the Mirror.
Many members of the press assume this means that Halliwell will join Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisolm, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham for a reunion this summer (both the Queen’s Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics will take place in London). Mel B. told an Australian radio show that the girls would look to get back together for the Diamond Jubilee.
Posh Spice isn’t in much of a hurry to get back into her ’97 Gucci dress. “All the girls are desperate for some Spice action except Posh who is simply too busy – she loves the girls and wants to support them and the fans but doesn’t see how she has the time when her fashion business is so successful,” a source told the Mirror. “She has a very small team that she is hands-on with all day, every day. Every spare minute she has is spent with her children.”
