Fashion Retrospective: Katy Perry (2005 – 2013)

Since she first debuted on the music charts back in 2008, Katy Perry has had a quirky signature style all her own. From her penchant for over-the-top costumes and ever-changing hair, the singer’s rock-star style has transformed from cute California girl to bona-fide fashion icon.

KATY PERRY (MAY 5, 2005): New to Los Angeles, Katy attended the Buttercup Celebrity Treasure Hunt event. Perry paired brown cowboy boots with her soft yellow embroidered dress. Katy accessorized her outfit with a beige western style belt and a woven cream mexican bag. Now that we think about it, Katy was trying to dress accordingly, since the event took place on Cinco De Mayo. Even way back then Katy had a flair for dressing to theme! Well, at least that’s what we’re hoping went on there.

KATY PERRY (MAY 6, 2013): Katy owns the throne as she channeled Joan of Arc at the Costume Institute Gala for the “PUNK: Chaos to Couture” exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art  in New York City. She donned one of the opulent embellished pieces from the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013 collection. The ‘Joan of Arc’ gown which she accessorized with a crown, crucifix earrings and a dark pout, was a vision to make anybody bow down to the goth medieval queen.

When it comes to rocking fashion, there isn’t much fearless fashionista Perry won’t try. Just look at her a the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, Katy matches her violet locks and ombré Blumarine gown. She reminded us of an ice-maiden princess. Her outfits are never without a touch of whimsy but Katy’s glam-get ups can serve as easy inspiration to liven up your look!
