Just as Emma Stone looks like she is starting to really enjoy her paycheck from The Amazing Spider Man, new developments have been made in terms of the sequel.
This week Sony announced that (director) Mark Webb and (Spider Man himself) Andrew Garfield are officially contractually bound to the upcoming Spider Man sequal set to release in May, 2014. Although there is no news of Emma Stone reprising her role as Gwen Stacy as of yet, it’s assumed that it will only be a matter of time before she is confirmed.
As it gets closer and closer to filming time for the sequel, more bit and pieces of information about it are emerging. The writers of the sequel have been picked (Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci of Bad Robot Productions,) and it has been officially stated by Sony that a film trilogy is in order. But, the most exciting news regarding the upcoming movies is that everything is still wide open. Webb has teased audiences regarding who the villain will be in the film, as well as the incorporation of other elements of the Spiderman universe that haven’t necessarily been touched upon yet. In other words, the direction that the next 2 films in the Amazing Spiderman franchise will go in has not been decided yet. I, for one, can’t wait to see which one it will go in. But I’m also enjoying the crossroads at which the fate of the franchise is in right now.
While waiting for the rest of the casting information, Stone has kept herself busy (mostly with on and off-screen love interest Andrew Garfield) in her down time before press begins for her new movie Gangster Squad opening in January, 2013.
