For those of you that aren’t fanatic comic book fans (like myself) let me catch you up to speed.

Saying the character Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man series is important is an understatement. Her death by the Green Goblin shook the comic book world to the core and had fans burning their copies. It was unexpected, unwelcome, and many say it ended the Silver Age of Comic Books. So when it was announced in October that Emma Stone would be starring in the new Spider-Man movie, fans everywhere began to anticipate the ill-fated death of the cherished character.

Emma Stone sat down with MTV to talk details on why she was so drawn to this character. “That was part of the reason why I was kind of drawn to the role, that mark on pop-culture history,” Stone said. “I read all about Gwen, and I thought that was so amazing.”

Read on to get the true story behind what exactly Gwen Stacy’s fate will be in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man, out July 3.

After getting familiar with the legendary character, Emma was worried that the screenwriters, as they commonly do, would change the fate of her character, something she absolutely did not want. Thankfully (I mean who else is excited to see her in this film?) they said they were keeping the story accurate.

“I spoke to the people behind the movie, and they said, ‘Yeah, we’re planning on staying true to the comics.’ And I was like, ‘If you’re making a movie like this, that’s something I want to be a part of,” she said. “That is so shocking and horrifying and kind of beautiful in some way. The fact that people unsubscribed and burned their copies – I like anything that causes some kind of upheaval.”

Don’t get too excited to see Emma killed off right away when you see the first film of the supposed series. During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in December, when asked about when she was planning on dying her hair back to her signature red the actress said, “There’s a few Spider-Men, so I may have to keep it for a couple of years.”

First, let’s hope that her relationship with co-star, Spider-Man himself, Andrew Garfield, lasts that long. But, that means we get to see more of these two hot  Hollywood celebs on screen together for more than one film.

Director Marc Webb isn’t revealing any details on the upcoming installment, but he share his excitement. Webb said, “I think that remains to be seen, but let me tell you this: The ultimate tragedy of Gwen Stacy is really a provocative and powerful part of the Spider-Man canon. I think it would be really extraordinary to explore that, but I don’t want to take the wind out of the drama.”
