Aw, Elizabeth Taylor, you look so frail! She looks cheerful though, leaving Boa Steakhouse on Thursday (May 27) in some kick ass cowboy boots, long red nails, and lots of gold jewelry. Fans gathered around and took pictures with her, but they look scared to get close to her. If I was there I would totally give her a hug (gently)! Long live Liz!
It’s too bad that
rumor about her ninth engagement wasn’t
true, but I love that the 78-year-old set the record straight in a
tweet. One of Liz’s legendary loves included Richard Burton. The two married actors met on the set of Cleopatra and started a media frenzy with an illicit affair. They married twice, once from 1964-74 and married again in October 1975 before breaking up in July 1976. Burton died of a brain hemorrhage in 1984, but not before sending Liz a letter saying he wanted to come back to her.
Liz has a collection of these love letters from Burton and she shared some of them for the new book Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century which comes out June 15.
“If you leave me, I shall have to kill myself,” the actor wrote in one letter. “There is no life without you.” In another he expresses his sorrow at their break up. “The fundamental and most vicious, swinish, murderous, and unchangeable fact is that we totally misunderstand each other…we operate on alien waveÂlengths.” This one is definitely getting a space on my bookshelf.
