A whole slew of Ryan Murphy’s friends showed up last night (February 27, 2013) for The Paley Center Honors Ryan Murphy With Inaugural PaleyFest Icon Award at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, California.
Murphy’s personal idol, The Jeffersons writer Norman Lear, introduced the evening’s question and answer event during the ceremony, which was attended by several Glee stars, including Lea Michele and Cory Monteith.
Ryan remembered how things have changed so much in the industry. “It was a different world when I did Popular,” he said of the network notes process and the idea that depicting two boys holding hands was likely to mean a fight with the network and studio. “It’s wonderful how the world has changed; the things that I used to get notes on … I don’t get those anymore,” he added of the ability to depict same-sex couples and their sex lives on shows like Glee and The New Normal.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, Michele writes, “A beautiful night honoring the amazing (Ryan Murphy). So happy for him. What a joy to be in such an amazing room with such incredible people.”
