Derek Jeter Wins Sports Illustrated Sportsman Of The Year

Still basking in the glow of the Yankees winning the World Series, baseball player Derek Jeter has just collected another prize to set on his fireplace mantle at home.

Sports Illustrated presented the professional athlete with the Sportsman of the Year for 2009 at a splashy ceremony in New York City. Jeter described the honor as “very humbling” and said that his cover was “nice.” He added, “The only thing that I thought was missing from that were my parents on both sides. Even if you don’t see them, just know that they’re there beside me at all times.”

What? No Tiger Woods? Kidding! Too soon?
