Another Happy Day premiered at Sundance last night to much fanfare…especially for a fight scene between longtime friends Demi Moore and Ellen Barkin!
“We’ve known each other a very long time, so we just kind of went for it,” said Moore of the scene, in which she strangles Barkin’s character. “We didn’t even need drinks.”
Director Sam Levinson said that he got his dream cast with the two leading ladies.
“CAA asked me, ‘Who do you want?’ So we started at the top,” said Levinson of casting the film, which centers around a family during the weekend of a wedding. “I’d always imagined Ellen in the lead, and I gave her the script, and she called me three hours later. She said, ‘I’m in.’”
The film also stars Ellen Burstyn, Kate Bosworth, Thomas Haden Church, George Kennedy and newcomer Ezra Miller, whose turn as Barkin’s drug-addled teenage son earned him rousing applause.
