Debbie Reynolds On Elizabeth Taylor: “She Was A Symbol Of Stardom”

People reports that the late Elizabeth Taylor spoke to former foe Debbie Reynolds a few weeks before her passing.  The two Hollywood legends talked about the difficulty in growing old, with Taylor confessing how “tough” it was.  The Singin’ In The Rain star soothed her ailing friend, encouraging Taylor to “hang in there.” Reynolds told Access Hollywood, “God bless her, she’s on to a better place.  I’m happy that she’s out of her pain because she was in a lot of pain.”

Reynolds released a statement earlier today after learning of Taylor’s passing.  In it, Reynolds said “She was the most glamorous and sexual star of our generation.  No one else could equal Elizabeth’s beauty and sexuality. Women liked her and men adored her, and her love for her children is enduring.”

Reynolds, photographed on the red carpet at her daughter Carrie Fischer’s HBO documentary Wishful Drinking back in December, and Taylor were embroiled in a huge scandal back in the fifties when Reynold’s husband, Eddie Fischer, left her for Taylor.  Fischer confessed to his then-wife, “I’m sorry.  Elizabeth and I are in love and I want a divorce.”
