Today, David Beckham popped by Air Studios in London to sign digital copies of his self-titled book, which chronicles the football player’s 20-year career.
Wearing a Remembrance Day Poppy on his lapel, Beckham recalled his very last game as a professional player.
“I knew it was going to be tough to get through for myself and for my family,” Beckham said, according to HELLO!
Towards the end of the game, the dad of four had “a real struggle controlling” his emotions.
“I broke down, it wasn’t something that I wanted to do but I couldn’t control it.
“It’s tough talking about it now [...] but I got to spend it with my boys.”
Still, getting to spend it with his family was something Beckham is grateful for.
“There’s a photo of Victoria and Romeo at that game and they’re looking really emotional. But to be able to have lived for it with my children is great, I’m proud to have been able to have my boys with me every time I lifted the trophy.”
