What a well-spoken dumping Darren Criss is. The Glee star sat down for a Q&A with Details Magazine, a hard thing to do these days given Criss’s jam-packed schedule. When he’s not filming the Fox television series, Criss is starring on Broadway in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying until later this month. He’s seen here signing autographs after a performance on January 3, 2011.
These were a few of our favorite quotes from the coversation:
What Criss did when Michele Bachmann wanted a photo taken with him at the Time 100 Gala: “I never let my politics supersede my manners. She came up with her husband and they were sweet as can be. She was like, ‘My kids love the show. I don’t watch it myself, but I’d love it if you could sign these postcards.’ It dawned on me that she didn’t know what the hell Glee was.”
A moment where Criss had to pinch himself: “It was at Prince Azim of Brunei’s birthday party in the middle of the English countryside. He’s a fan of Glee. I never thought I would meet Mariah Carey, but I really never thought I’d be introduced to her by Whitney Houston. She’s like, ‘Hey, baby, this is Mariah.” I’m like, ‘I know. I’m Darren. I don’t know what I’m doing here.’”
How Criss balances Glee with How To Succeed: “I had my homework cut out for me. Glee is an interesting game. They’ll say, “You’re not shooting tomorrow. But you have to record two songs and you have dance rehearsal and you might have a fitting.” When I wasn’t doing all of that, I tried to have dance rehearsals for How to Succeed.”
Why Criss couldn’t go to his senior prom: “I climbed out the window to go to a movie. When I got home, my mom was asleep in my bed. My parents were groovy, but they wanted me to learn that there were consequences and I couldn’t talk my way out of everything. I felt like I was doing a drug deal or something. The worst thing I’d ever done in my life was eat ice cream in the living room after eight.”
Is he the cutest?
