Thandie Newton Wants Us Thinking About Darfur Now

October 31st, 2007 // 1 Comment

Who are all these women? Well, two of them are the Hanson brothers with their wives just outside the Los Angeles premier for the documentary film, “Darfur Now.” Jessica Biel, Josh Peck (of the Nickelodeon show “Drake & Josh”) and Thandie Newton were in attendance, despite the fact that the two stars featured in the film, Don Cheadle and George Clooney, were unable to attend the event. Thandie, however, spoke on behalf of fellow Hollywood celebrities, who hope to use their fame to evoke political change.

“I think that entertainment and showbusiness is a fantastic way of reaching people and to be more conscious of what needs to be reached out to people not just numbing our brains.”

I don’t know about you, but I rather like having my brain numb. Just kidding! I too care about issues! Magazine issues! SYKE! But seriously. I have a college education.

“I think that entertainment and showbusiness is a fantastic way of reaching people…”
(So THAT’S why all the cameras and microphones are there!)
    “and to be more conscious…”
(so mugging and pulling faces and reciting someone else’s ideas is a mind-expanding experience)
“of what needs to be reached out to people…”
    (Wha???)
    “not just numbing our brains.”
(Oh, heavens no, MUCH more than that!)
