Cyndi Lauper appeared on stage tonight in Cannes alongside The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood to raise funds for (RED), which fights HIV/AIDS. ”I’m trying something new and I think Ron Wood is stepping on. I’ve never worked with him before, so we’ll see what happens,” the singer said to a reality TV crew, which has been following her around France, according to the Boston Globe.
The event drew Chris O’Dowd and fiance Dawn Porter, as well as Lauper’s hubby, David Thornton and a host of other film festival dwellers. (RED) also has a limited edition Belvedere bottle, also geared towards raising money.
Lauper recently applauded President Obama for defending gay marriage. “President Obama continues to be a true leader for equality and I have never been prouder to call him my president than I am today,” the music icon said in a statement, according to Politico. ”The president’s support of marriage equality gives hope and encouragement to the millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people who feel ostracized and alone. The words of the president have reinforced that they are worthy of dignity, respect, and love – just like everyone else.”
